The list of unusual minority scholarships is lengthy. Many of these awards are offered to students based on both academic qualifications and demonstrated financial need. For example, the William Randolph Hearst endowed scholarship for minority students is offered annually by the Aspen Institute, which is located in Washington, D.C. Recipients of this scholarship spend the summer serving as student research interns for the Institute. In exchange, they receive award monies of between $2,500 and $5,000. This is available to both undergraduate and graduate scholarships for minority students.
