The Big 33 Scholarship is Unusual and Large

Big 33 Scholarship

Big33Scholarship

Are you looking for funds to help pay for your college education? Even if you are not a football player, you need to be aware of the Big 33 Scholarship a large and unusual scholarship program which is funded by the Annual Big 33 Football Classic and other sponsors of the program. It’s hard to believe that you could win this Big scholarship without actually being an athlete, but you definitely can. This is why it’s an unusual scholarship and at the same time an extremely large scholarship in terms of the number of Big 33 scholarships awarded every year.

The Big 33 has given away approximately $3,900,000 since it started awarding Big scholarships in 1985. The mission of the organization is to produce the best possible high school football game in the United States and to showcase the talents of students and communities, and to raise funds for academic scholarships and other charitable activities. Winners of the Big 33 scholarships are invited to attend the game and the week long festivities that are centered on the game.

Although the Big 33 has only been awarding these unusual scholarships since 1985, it has actually existed for more than fifty years. The game has been played since 1957, and it features the best high school football players in Ohio and Pennsylvania. It is considered to be the Super Bowl of High School Football. Many well known NFL stars have played in the game, as high school students, including Tony Dorsett, Orlando Pace, Joe Montana, and Joe Namath. In every Super Bowl game, there has been at least one Big 33 Alumnus member playing, which says a great deal about the importance of this game from a professional standpoint.

The game occurs in June or July each year, and the activities include cheerleading exhibitions, the Big scholarship awards ceremony, youth clinics, visits to local hospitals by the players, and numerous other activities. The game is played in Pennsylvania, and the players from Ohio stay with families who agree to be host families. It is the proceeds of the game and other fund raising activities and donations that fund the Big 33 college scholarship program.

In order to be eligible for the Big 33 Scholarship, you must be a well rounded student, showing that you have academic excellence, and that you are involved in extracurricular activities. You must also be a high school senior enrolled in a school in Ohio or Pennsylvania, but the school can be private or public as long as it is accredited. Additionally, you must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and you must plan to attend college at an accredited institution. Although the Big 33 scholarship is awarded by a football organization, this is not an athletic scholarship, and you do not have to be an athlete to apply or to win the award. You must also plan to be a full time student and a citizen of the United States.

The Big 33 Scholarship Foundation awards a minimum of 150 scholarships each year, with a maximum of 200 scholarships, but last year, 214 scholarships were awarded. The smallest award is $500, and the largest scholarship award amount is $4500. If your a high school senior this is one large and unusual scholarship that could be an easy scholarship to win simply because so many are doled out each year. Don’t get passed up and apply if you fit the criteria. For more information go to the Big 33 Scholarship program. The application process opens in October, and ends in February each year.

Often, unknown scholarships that are available in a student’s local community are over looked as a possible source of funding for a higher education because students simply aren’t aware of them. This very well could be the case with the Cargill scholarship for high school students. Cargill hands out large amounts of relatively unknown scholarships each and every year and all high school students should take the time to apply if they default into the Cargill scholarship criteria. These can be easy scholarships for many high school students.

Cargill is an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial & industrial products and services. Started in 1865, Cargill has 159,000 employees world wide in 68 countries. Cargill is an innovative company which has been prosperous at challanging economic, environmental and social problems head on.

The Cargill Scholarship Program includes three different scholarships – the Cargill Community Scholarship Program, the Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High School Juniors, and the Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High School Seniors.

To be eligible for the Cargill Community Scholarship Programs community scholarship, you must be a high school senior, and you must live in a community near a Cargill business operation. While the scholarship application must be signed by someone who works for Cargill, Cargill employees and their children are not eligible for this particular HS scholarship.

The amount of this scholarship for high school seniors award is $1000, and a $200 grant is given to each winner’s high school library as a bonus. This is a one time award and it is awarded to 350 students annually. Applications are usually due in February of each year, and the winners are notified in May. The application is usually available from the Cargill website in November of each year.

The other two scholarship types make up the rest of the Cargill Community Scholarships Programs, and these scholarships are for the children of Cargill employees. The first one is the Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High School Juniors. As the name implies it is awarded to high school juniors, and only ten of these scholarships are awarded annually. Students should apply during their junior year of high school, and applications are due in February.

The amount of this scholarship for high school juniors is $1000, for each year of college, up to four years. Any high school junior is eligible if they have a parent working for Cargill, and if they have taken the PSAT/NMSQT. Remember, that this is a renewable scholarship, meaning that you will receive $1000 for each year that you are in college, but there may be conditions such as maintaining a certain grade point
average to remain eligible. Your parent will also need to remain an employee of the company to retain eligibility.

The second high school scholarship, the Cargill Scholarship Program for Sons & Daughters – High School Seniors, have the same guidelines and requirements, except that the student must be a senior when they apply. (40) of these scholarships are awarded each year, but they are one time awards, in the amount of $3000.

If you are eligible for either of these unknown scholarships for high school students for sons and daughters, you should apply for both – in your junior year of high school, and again in your senior year. These high school scholarships are not made available to graduate students.

If you are not eligible for these HS scholarships, or you do not win one, be aware that the Cargill Community Scholarship Programs have other options, such as internship programs or employee tuition reimbursement programs.
