Its because the scholarship pool of applicants is not large, and the odds increase for those who apply. The unclaimed college scholarships are the ones to search for, and start applying to, then move onto the others.
Here are some obscure scholarships to consider, IF you are an animal lover and plan on a veterinarian career of some sort. It’s a broad field with many options to choose from, so give it a thorough look before deciding against it.

Do you love animals?
US high school students graduating in the 2017-18 school year, can apply for this $1,000 unclaimed college scholarship award. If you can write about a story how you changed the life of a rescue animal, or animal welfare cause in general, and have the best story to tell, you may win this one. Start submitting your entry August 1st, with a February 15, 2018 deadline. There is a 2nd, and 3rd place prize too, but you must donate it to an animal shelter of your choice.

Catological Scholarship For The Promotion Of Animal Welfare
This obscure scholarship is offered by a company who who wants all cat parents to love their kitties better. They do this by educating you about this. To apply to this award, students must be US citizens, and enrolled in college full time as a graduate, or undergraduate program. Deadline is August 1st, and it’s a $1,000 stipend. All you have to do is submit a 500 word essay about the daily habits people should acquire to have a positive impact for animal welfare.
Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships
The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF)has a mission to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. To accomplish this, they file high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm. They will provide free legal assistance, along with training to prosecutors to assure that animal abusers are punished to the full extent of the law. They have an educational unclaimed scholarship called the Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships to make people aware of all they support. There are (3) $5,000 first place awards, and $1,000 to each 2nd place winners, which, may be more then one from year to year. Oxbow Animal Health Scholarships Unclaimed
Oxbow Animal Health has scholarships for those students with a field of study in the pet industry, or animal health and nutrition. Oxbow has unclaimed college scholarships for veterinary technology, veterinary medicine, undergraduate, and high school students. Awards are from $500, to $1,000 for each, and criteria varies slightly from every one. March 2nd is deadline. Oxbow Animal Health distributes animal care products superior in nutrition to others and strives for excellence in pet nutrition.
Animal Compassion Undergraduate Scholarship are unheard of scholarships…
Pet Insurance U offers pet insurance which protects pet owners from outrages medical bill for there pets. They will award an unclaimed college scholarship of $500 to veterinarian students who demonstrate financial need, and academic prowess. Pet Insurance U seeks to identity students who have demonstrated outstanding efforts aimed at improving public understanding of what constitutes animal cruelty and what can be done to curb its proliferation. John D. Spurling OBE Scholarships; for responsible pet ownership…
The AKC Humane Fund will award (5) John D. Spurling OBE Scholarships, $10,000 total in all, to undergraduates enrolled full time, in a field of study, that advances responsible pet ownership. This may include veterinary medicine & technology, physical therapy, animal care & behavior, along with grooming and training as well. Winners will be evaluated on academic achievements, letters of reccommendation, community service with responsible pet ownership. Deadline is July 1st of every year. Go to the John D. A Voice for Animals Scholarships Unclaimed
This is actually a contest, but the monies won can be used for anything, even paying for college as well. It opens in January each year, and deadline in March. It’s an essay based unclaimed award too. The Palo Alto Humane Society, the Humane Education Network, and the Animal Welfare Institute all participate in supporting this award. All of these organizations strive to reduce animal suffering caused by people’s actions knowingly, and unknowingly.

AABP Amstutz Unclaimed College Scholarships
The American Association of Bovine Practitioners is comprised of veterinarians interested in bovine medicine. They are leaders in cattle health, welfare & productivity. Every year the scholarship amount varies, but in 2016 (7) $7,500 unclaimed college scholarships were awarded. To be eligible; applicants must be AABP members, enrolled in veterinary medicine school accredited by the AVMA Council on Education, be a second year student, and have a future career in bovine veterinary medicine in the US, or Canada.
